Izmailovo Manor

Izmailovo Manor, a former royal residence on Moscow's oldest man—made island, is just a few minutes' walk from the Vega Hotel. In the 1660s, by order of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich, Silver and Grape ponds were dug here, and the largest experimental farm was established on the island. It was in Izmailovo that the young Peter I found the boat "Saint Nicholas" — the "grandfather of the Russian fleet", which later inspired him to create the Russian Navy. In the 19th century, by decree of Nicholas I, a military almshouse for veterans of the Patriotic War of 1812 was founded on the island, designed by architect Konstantin Ton.

Today Izmailovo Manor is an object of cultural heritage of federal significance and part of the Moscow State Museum-Reserve. This is a specially protected natural area where history, architecture and nature harmoniously combine. The guests will find the lecture hall "Old Moscow Apartment", a cozy space in the interior of the Soviet era, where lectures on the history of the island from tsarist times to the XX century are held. Walking along the shady alleys and picturesque ponds, you seem to be transported through the centuries — and all this is within walking distance from the Vega Hotel.
