Lilac Garden Park

Lilac Garden— the fragrant pearl of Moscow, is a short drive from Vega Hotel

Getting to the famous Lilac Garden from the Vega Hotel is easy and convenient: it takes only 10-15 minutes by public transport or taxi, and a walk (about 28 minutes) will give you additional impressions of exploring Moscow streets. Located along Shchelkovsky Highway, this unique park is a real treasure for connoisseurs of nature, history and the aromas of spring.

Lilac Garden traces its history back to 1954, when the Experimental and Demonstration Nursery of the outstanding breeder Leonid Alekseevich Kolesnikov was founded here. During his lifetime, he bred about 300 varieties of lilacs, many of which became international celebrities. Among them are the "Beauty of Moscow" with flowers blooming from lilac to snow—white, "Alexey Maresyev", whose petals resemble airplane blades, as well as "Galina Ulanova", "Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya", "Lights of Moscow" and others — they can still be seen today in full bloom.

Since 1975, the nursery has turned into a public park, and in recent years, the Lilac Garden has undergone a large-scale reconstruction: paths have been updated here, a light and music fountain have been installed, cozy benches, modern WorkOut areas, a children's area and even a lilac pavilion have been added. Special attention was paid to preserving Kolesnikov's unique heritage — original specimens aged 60-70 years still grow in the garden, and recently more than 120 new seedlings of his varieties were transplanted here. Walking through the alleys of the park in spring, you seem to be caught in a cloud of scents and colors — and all this is just a few minutes from the Vega Hotel.
